The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) at IU Indianapolis is a student organization within the Division of Student Affairs. The USG has a duty to be ambassadors for the students of IU Indianapolis and represent their interests to the fullest extent. The purposes of USG representatives are to encourage democratic thought and action through self-governance and to facilitate a collaborative environment to positively impact the over 20,000 undergraduate students and the campus and community. Additionally, per the USG Constitution, the organization: Provides students the opportunity for representation by a student government in consideration of student affairs by Indiana University, as declared in the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct (Part 1, Section C); Provides an official and representative undergraduate student government; Provides undergraduate students a voice in the affairs of the University; Investigates undergraduate student problems and takes appropriate action; Affords undergraduate students the opportunity to develop leadership skills and experience; Provides the means for undergraduate students to maximize their opportunities for learning; Establishes a community of undergraduate student life that supports learning The USG leadership team consists of nine positions and includes executive and Senate leadership. These positions include the President; Vice President; Secretary; Treasurer; Director of Communications; Director of Initiatives; Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; President of the Senate; and Senate Clerk. As a result of being campus representatives, students in these positions work in formal and informal settings with individuals and teams on problem solving campus issues, advocating for changes, and communicating with the student body. Each year is unique, and each group is tested by working with a diverse array of affinity groups, students from marginalized communities, and students who have a genuine interest in enacting campus changes
