In this 3 credit studio course, students develop visual communication design and basic design research skills by working directly with local organizations and community partners. Working in teams, students hone their ability to work collaboratively and use basic design research methods to investigate, plan, and develop visual communication design solutions. Students bring a people-centered perspective throughout their engagement with project work. Projects are applied across multiple visual communication design channels and formats to target specific audiences and communication needs/criteria. Throughout their project work, students also express and reflect on the benefit that design research methods and processes bring to community engagement, as well as one’s identity as a civic-minded, people-centered designer.
