This short-term study abroad program is an experiential art history course covering the art and architecture of Venice, Italy from the late Roman Empire and Early Byzantine period to contemporary art of 2022, with a special emphasis on the 2022 Venice Biennale. The one-week course will be taught on-site in Venice, as well as nearby towns with important art historical monuments in the area of the former Venetian Republic. Instructional time will be spent in museums and at historic sites, architectural monuments, and urban spaces. The mission of the program is to expose art and art history students to historical and contemporary works of art and to understand the relevance of that art in the city of Venice and in the contemporary world, with a long-term view toward understanding their own place in that world.
